head spinner

Wow. The pick of Gov. Palin as VP came as a shock but I immediately smiled because I knew how tough she is with Big Oil and corruption. Over the last year I had been breezing thru some articles highlighting the good things she did back in Alaska. What a bold choice. The only thing that has surprised me so far is that she is the 3rd of 4 children and not the oldest sibling. Are we in bizzaro world? Go get 'em Sarah, the anti-shillary.

With the media in a frenzy, the best comment I have read so far was on Anchor Rising posted by Mike C:

The left wing hate machine is exposing themselves for just what they are - a bunch of bigoted, sexist hypocrites. It's so easy to see just what they despise about Sarah Palin - she is the typical, normal, sacrificing American woman that has gotten ahead through hard work, determinaton and perseverance.

And they hate her for it. She hasn't been brought up looking for handouts, and sucking off the public, showing that, yes, you can make it through life if you are so determined. She understands clearly that people have responsibilities, not rights. And she lives by it, unlike the "Do as I say, not as I do" left wing trash.

If she was a divorced lesbian on welfare, who pushed her daughter to have an abortion, the left-wing hate machine would be so enamored with her. But no, she is your normal everyday American hero that the "tolerant and progressive liberals" want to tear down, because she understandably exposes their disgusting agenda for the big fat lie that it is, and [she] makes them feel so inferior and [like] such a failure. They should feel that way.

room for more

It’s been an interesting summer and I’ll briefly touch on a few subjects and see if you notice a theme. The above photo shows the south of Bristol from the top of the proposed windmill in Barrington. The highlighted areas show a recent land purchase by the town and now off the market.

Last week the town of Barrington reviewed five bids to discuss which company can make your heart aflutter (and make up for any of your consumption guilt) by stealing our tax dollars for a good cause. A quick review of the 2.5M offers to generate a maximum 190K savings per year shows one company skimming 20K off the top every year and another will build it for “free” if the company buys any power generated back at 10x the going rate. Buyer Beware. This renewable energy market is where you will currently find the former oil speculators finding out how easy it is get laws passed and keep the money coming. Usually forever.

I took on my first interior modeling job and the results were pretty good. The overhead views went over well and entry view, kitchen and great room.

On the collectible hunt I have been pretty quiet. Picked up a limited Hentchmen 7" with trading cards, Les Savy Fav PD and a couple Southern Lord vinyls but missed out on the Sub Pop Singles Club V3. Also put my Elephant 6 collection up for purchase and continue to pull out items for a Fall sale.

Softball news. Bristol team finished with the #2 seed and have been playing better. Barrington over-30 finished with #1 seed but lost first round of playoffs and now have to win 5 games. Wooden bats have been fun and the over-40 league is slowly moving along. Played a few tournaments and feeling good while having fun. This weekend is a large 43-team tourney with teams from all over New England and we start with Team Electrolux from Maine.

RI Baseball May, 1984

The list above is from the Evening Bulletin. At first glance it doesn’t seem like much but after a close review there are a dozen guys I have played softball with or against thru the years. I also received a bunch of original WHS ’83 football season clippings and I’m planning on starting a separate blog to document the season and stats. If I can figure it out, I will post the video from the Superbowl at Brown Stadium.

Purchases over the last few weeks include signed cd’s from Liz Phair , The Melvins and Rob Dickensen from Newbury Comics. Hopefully I can continue to update, comb-over some issues and lob some bombs thru the summer.

now be nice to him, pet him if you have to

If you pre-order Mudhoney’s new LP The Lucky Ones from Sub Pop they will throw in a bonus 7” single. Insound has Weezer’s new LP with a bonus 7".

Antiques Roadshow has now archived a couple of item and it’s great fun to see such great items. The only vinyl related item was this record. Here is the entire list of items from their stop in Providence.

Smart shoppers will grab a hand-numbered limited About A Son: Kurt Cobain LP now available from Barsuk Records.

When people see the show, they'll think of my business

Limited numbers of Dirtbombs / Kelley Stoltz tour singles are now available from Cass Records and highly recommended. The previous singles I recommended are now all sold out. Here is a rare white vinyl version of Sliver that may approach the purple Smashing Pumpkins mentioned below (100 copies).

Here is a two-story modular addition with a handicap accessible in-law.

Here is a second story modular addition for a typical ranch.

It's not like I'm going to stop and be a baker or anything

I’ve always been struck by night images of large cities.

Click here to find out what city is shown.

Record Store Day ruled and still shifting thru lots of free stuff. Starting at Zingg music in Warren I chatted up owner Chris and handed over two dozen copies of the now OOP Staggering Statistics EP. He didn’t have any of the limited vinyl available for the day but I grabbed an Elliott Smith and Just Ice LP and got this grab bag of goodies for $34. Then headed for Newbury at Providence Mall and got all the vinyl I wanted for $48. After suffering thru the new parking setup, I scored this bag of free stuff and satisfied that I made the trek.

Vinyl collecting in general has again picked up steam and it shows in the price of a Love Buzz. Recently prices include four copies averaging about $2,700 including 501, 151, 239 and a promo version. Also out-of-site was this 100 copy version of the Smashing Pumpkins 7" single. I think the value of my super-rare molly's lips single just went up.

My global cooling wacko-of-the-week goes to this guy in CA. This tree-hater sued to cut down his neighbor’s privacy because they blocked his over-priced solar panels.

we met some cool dudes, they were just like us

Here is the approved design for the large house and in-law. Design docs have been issued but I still have to put together the structurals. Overall we reduced the square footage to 3,000 plus 1,000 s.f. in-law + 700 s.f. playroom over the garage.

Highly recommend two 7” tour singles from The Dirtbombs and Jay Reatard from Aussie label Stained Circles. Or grab The Ractonteurs new LP from Best Buy for half price.
